Imran Khan, who is now the Pakistani Prime Minister, still was man of the match.
Final ODI, Austral-Asia Cup at Sharjah
This is the match which will always remind the bitterest memories for India, and therefore the sweetest ones for Pakistan. The match played on April 18, 1986, again an ODI played in Sharjah. With Pakistan needing four off the last ball to win, India’s Chetan Sharma ran in and bowled a full toss and Javed Miandad scored a six. Miandad, presented with a golden sword, became national hero for Pakistan. While Chetan Sharma faced insults when he returned home with the team.
1st Test, Pakistan tour of India at Chennai
India’s most celebrated batsman and a century from him, Sachin Tendulkar, was generally the recipe for success in the 1990s and 2000s but not in the 1999 Test match against Pakistan in Chennai. Chasing 271 runs by Pakistan for victory, Tendulkar scored a tremendous 136 runs. But Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq got him out and India finally lost by 12 runs. The generous Indian home crowd gave Pakistani team a standing ovation, but Tendulkar was broken-hearted.
Final, ICC World Twenty20 at Johannesburg
An India-Pakistan final in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2007 was an ideal setting for cricket’s newest format. Misbah ul Haq of Pakistani team was on the verge of taking his team to an outstanding win with his batting in a chase of 158.
But then came a moment of folly as Haq tried to play a daring shot to seal victory against Indian pacer Joginder Sharma in the final over. The ball went high into the waiting hands of Sreesanth. Indian team led by MS Dhoni celebrated as Haq missed the chance of a lifetime.
