Barbados Tridents and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had
pretty similar campaigns in the 2019 edition of the Caribbean Premier League
(IPL). In the round-robin stage, both teams won five games each and made their
way through to the playoffs. However, even as the Patriots bowed out after a defeat
in the Daily fantasy cricket
Eliminator, the Tridents, led by Jason Holder, went on to get their hands on
the coveted trophy.
The teams are now set to lock horns in the second of
Tuesday’s doubleheader at the Brian Lara Stadium. If head-to-head figures are
considered, the Patriots are leading by 7-3. But the Tridents aren’t pushovers,
especially after bringing in the likes of Rashid Khan in their setup. The
Patriots, on the other hand, let go of Carlos Brathwaite, but roped in some
experienced players in their setup.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch generally plays slow at the venue. With the
first game also taking place here, the pitch many not get any better. But
since, the second match will be played under the lights and in the evening, the
dew factor many come into play. But since both teams are bowling heavy, they
can afford to put runs on the board. The temperature will be around the 28
degrees Celsius mark.
Playing Combinations
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents have Johnson Charles and Shai Hope at the
top of the order. Hope missed a majority of the last season due to injury and
his recent form hasn’t been great either. He will be looking to make a mark and
find some rhythm. In the middle, order, Jonathan Carter and Anderson’s role
will be key.
The likes of Reifer, Nurse, Rashid and Holder can also
use the long handle to good effect. In bowling, Hayden Walsh Jr was the leading
wicket-taker last time. He will have Rashid and Nurse for company in the spin
department. Anderson, Reifer and Holder will have to deliver in the pace department.
Predicted XI
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Shamarh Brooks,
Justin Greaves, Jonathan Carter, Corey Anderson, Jason Holder (C), Raymon
Reifer, Ashley Nurse, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots have had Evin Lewis at the top of the
order in the last few seasons and he has performed to expectations. This time,
they have brought in Chris Lynn from the Knight Riders. From TKR itself, St
Kitts have taken Denesh Ramdin, who has the potential of soaking pressure in crisis.
In the middle-order, they have the left-handed Ben
Dunk, who was in excellent form in the PSL 2020 earlier this year. In bowling,
the Patriots have the experience of Rayad Emrit and Sohail Tanvir. The onus
will also be on Sheldon Cottrell and Ish Sodhi to make inroads into the
opposition batting.
Predicted XI
Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ben Dunk,
Nicholas Kelly, Joshua de Silva, Rayad Emrit (C), Sohail Tanvir, Ish Sodhi,
